Ramboll was selected by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC to be the technical advisor to the Electricity Off-taker of the Salalah IPP Power Plant which is aimed at fulfilling the demand for a more reliable and cost-efficient power supply in Oman.

The Salalah Plant has a 445 MW power generation capacity and a dual fuel capability with Natural Gas as the primary fuel and Fuel Oil as back-up fuel. The new facility is set to meet the increase in energy consumption resulting from the exponential growth the region is witnessing and that is expected to continue in the next five years.

Highly efficient power plant

With a strong focus on energy optimisation, the project resulted in a highly efficient Plant with an energy conversion that went from 32% in the existing plant to 54% in the new Plant. Apart from being more efficient, the new Plant has a lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions which also makes it a more environmentally-friendly energy source.

Project completed with an excellent HSE record

Ramboll provided consultancy services to the Off-taker to monitor the construction, commissioning and testing of the Plant to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Power Purchase Agreement, and to provide the necessary co-ordination of interfaces between the new Plant, the Grid Substation, Gas Supply Facilities, Load Despatch Centre and an existing power plant.

The project was completed within the established timeframe and with an excellent HSE record. Ramboll performed bi-monthly HSE site audits contributing to no Lost Time Incidents (LTI) out of the 6.5 million-man hours invested during the site works.
